I’ve been curious about the eulogies to Heston that have appeared on the jewish blogs. Heston maintained such an odd figure between the larger than life roles he played and the larger than life grip he kept on his guns. He played strong and memorable Jews (Moses, Ben Hur) but I never felt much connection to him. That being said, I have a deep down private love of him in the movie The Greatest Show on Earth. As the manager of the circus, Heston, in his leather bomber jacket, ruled with a hard hand and brooded over his inability to tell his high flying love, Betty Hutton, how he felt. With them, and Dorthy Lamour and Gloria Grahame in fabulous costumes , and Jimmy Stewart with a red nose, really, kitsch awesomeness.
R.I.P. Charlton Heston
